kleine fabriek!

Visit to the kids fair in Amsterdam- kleine fabriek

The fair was super well organised and was great to attend. With friendly staff, clear information, enough light and space to enjoy the work environment, cafes in every corner of the fair, and a yummmy ice cream bar. The Dutch are so easy going, relaxed and direct. Something I love in life.

My favourites…

Dear Romy from Kids on Roof I finally met life after having sent hundreds of emails back and forth. Her multiple award winning recycled toys are avant guard, educational, creative and fun. I ❤ them all!

Anne-Claire Petit introduced me to little Lily, organic woven cotton doll (exclusive on Abi Loves…this Fall). She is amazing. All her work is made by women in a poor remote village in China. Giving them work and money to live and send their kids to school. There should be more people out there doing such things.

Finger in the Nose…for the first time on Abi Loves…this Fall. The coolest kids jeans brand promises to continue to rock on through 2010. Yeah!

Bisgaard, high quality, comfortable modern kids shoes…lovely colours for next Spring. The kind of leather shoes your kids like wearing and you dont mind if they get them scratched. They look even cooler used and with a bit of cream are back to new for special occasion.

Fresh Air

July 11, 2009 · Leave a Comment

fresh airWe can get the kids as many toys as we want…its going to end up in the corner of the playroom sooner or later. Best toys are the ones the kids can be creative with, let their imagination grow, learn from or interact…

But best of all is the time they are with friends, cousins, practicing social behaviour, compassion and being outdoors. Exploring is what kids do best. They manage to draw our attention back to ‘a child’s eye’ and teach us how to discover the little things again…marvelous.

Kids it’s time to:

  • collect sticks, rocks and leafs
  • slide down the hill on your bottom
  • collect snails in old jam jars
  • hide behind trees till Mummy gets worried
  • jump in a puddle
  • drink ice cold water out of a fountain and splash the person standing next to you
  • visit a farm
  • forget about time for dinner and bath and cleaning up…topsy turvy is fine

romantic weekend in Amsterdam

July 9, 2009 · Leave a Comment

…with a smile on my face I am thinking of my romantic weekend in Amsterdam. With the kids at their cousins house, my husband and I wandered along the channels of this beautiful city. The sun on our back, sitting in cafes, never ending free time. Wonderful!

Places to go, eat, visit, stay:

go...everywhere, on foot, on bike, on boat…get lost in the back streets of Amsterdam

eat…De Bakkerswinkel - great for breakfast and lunch

Bazar Amsterdam - visit the market and grab a quick Turkish bite for lunch

De Goudfazant – lost in an old garage, my favourite of all

visit… Foam – museum of photography

stay…Hotel V – in an old house, small modern central

my little darling

July 1, 2009 · Leave a Comment

my little darling

A few weeks ago Tsutaya had a presentation of the smallest digital camera. Finally one that fits in to a pocket and takes vintage style pics like the 8mm film used to. I just had to get it! Digital Harinezumi by Powershovel is the smaller than a  cigarette box, takes pictures in ISO 100&800 and movies! Before I will have it confiscated by my son whose new hobby is taking pictures. I will enjoy it.
